FINGAL SENIOR CHAMPIONS 2017
We started out in April in a group which
consisted of The Island, Donabate, Forrest
Little, Balbriggan, Hollywood Lakes and
Malahide.
At the end of the round robin section of the
league we finished second in our group to
Balbriggan and qualified for the quarter final
against Ashbourne GC who we had beaten in
the 2016 final.
Again, as in the 2016 final it was a close match
with Malahide going through with a win by
Robert Doyle and Barry Skelton on the 19th
hole.
Semi final saw us meeting Beaverstown in
Howth GC which we won comfortably.
The final was played in Balcarrick GC against
Hollywood Lakes who had beaten us in the
earlier round robin section of the league.
This was a hard fought match with both sides
playing great golf.
Malahide looked to be coming off second best
as the matches got into the back 9. However
we managed to turn around 3 matches in the
last 4/5 holes with cool heads and great golf to
get these matches down the 19th Hole.
We won 2 of these matches on 19 with Paul
Moore and Dermot Kelly getting the clinching
match to win the final 4 matches to 3.
There was a great enthusiastic spirit in the
whole panel and this was evident in tight
matches in the knock out stages in the
competition.
A total of 31 players got the opportunity to
represent the club in this tournament. The
format of this competition e.g. +60 years of age
and +19 handicap lends itself to giving some
members an opportunity to play representative
golf for their clubs for the first time. In the past
2 years many members of our panel enjoyed
this experience for the first time.
