THE MCGINLEY TROPHY
The format is Fourball match play and participants are the winners of their club’s Fourball
match play competition in the preceding year. The concept was born as result of a few
friends – the committee – who enjoy regular Fourballs deciding to fill a gap in inter-club
competitions by putting the McGinley Trophy in place. Paul McGinley is delighted to
be associated with the competition, especially as it is promoting a form of golf he really
enjoys.
The format is Fourball match play and is open to the winners of their club’s qualifying
competition in the preceding year which Robert Fowler and Rory O’Donnell won in
Malahide in 2016.
Rory and Robert qualified for the finals in
Powerscourt GC where in the morning, they
defeated the Old Conna pairing and in the
afternoon, overcame Beech Park to bring
the trophy back to Malahide.
Conor Sutton, son of Alasdair and Geraldine Sutton is currently attending Union College
