Beechwood Malahide Golf Club in Beechwood Lane 1990 – 2017 Some Milestones 1990 The New 27-hole Golf Couse and Club House Opens 1991 Won Leinster All Ireland Mixed 1992 Winter League founded by Michael Lenihan & Lorna Kinder- still going! 1993 Won Mens All Ireland Junior Cup in a very tight match against Limerick Golf Club played in Woodbrook. The Malahide players came home the strongest on the back 9 for a narrow but deserved win. The team was managed by Michael Craddock Snr and Bernard Sweeney both of whom had previous All Ireland winning experience as players in earlier years. Also, won Best Cup, McDonnell Cup and were beaten in the Leinster Final of the Mixed Foursomes. All Ireland Mother and Son Competition founded by Michael Lenihan & Lorna Kinder. Flogas were initial sponsors and Kellogg’s Nutri-grain now sponsor the event which has attracted entries from all corners of Ireland and some notable names have participated. Padraig Harrington and his mother Breda fi nished runner up in the fi rst year and returned in 1995 to win the trophy. Over the years many Malahide mother and son combinations triumphed. (See overleaf for winners) 1995 Won O’Grady Cup. 1996 Won Fred Daly (All Ireland Under 18) Managed by Billy Kelly and Joe Connolly the team beat the much-favored City of Derry in semi-fi nal and overcame Douglas of Cork in the fi nal. Men won Best Cup 1997 Won Dublin JB Carr. Jack O’Brien Annual Golf tournament v Cricket Club starts and continues Jack O’Brien was President of both Malahide Golf and Cricket Clubs. The annual cricket match between both clubs for the “Slippery Catch” Trophy – sponsored by Geelan Brothers continues to this day. 1998 16 acres bought to extend Yellow Nine 1999 Work on Yellow planned by late Tom Craddock, including the now famous 9th Hole, carried out. Men Won Uden Cup 2000 Won O’Grady Cup 2001 Equal Status Legislation given effect in Malahide Golf Club at EGM. After the EGM, all ladies were invited to convert to Full membership and the vast majority opted to transfer. Approximately 30 ladies opted to remain as Lady Associates. 2003 Won Metropolitan Cup v Beaverstown: Team included 4 Juniors,4 Intermediates and 1 Grand Father. Pro Am Starts: The Hospice in Raheny had been given the course free for many years to enable them run a fi nd rising classic. Malahide GC had run a corporate day for a few years. Under the guidance of Captain Donal Hughes, both events were merged into one to create a Pro-am, to fund raise for the Hospice. Philp Walton agreed to become associated with the Pro-am and it has been designated as the Philip Walton Pro Am ever since. It is to the great credit of the Committees that the Pro-am was kelp going in the diffi cult economic years. 50 Teams approx. are fi elded every year and to date c200,000 has been raised for the Hospice.
