Malahide Golf Club FORE! Spring Edition 2016

Notes From Clubs Within Malahide Golf Club Bridge Club Our Bridge Club continues to go from strength and the level of interest in the game is reflected in the growth in our membership again this year. Participation levels are also very high with up to 16 tables playing on most Monday nights. We are now in the second half of our season when our two major competitions take place. Recently we have had a very successful President’s Prize competition. Our annual charity night, which this year was for Focus Ireland, took place on Monday February 22nd. This will be followed by our Captain’s Prize which takes place over two nights in early March. We are looking forward to a very strong end to our year which finishes with our AGM and Captain’s Dinner on April 18th. Dominic Mc Mahon Special Olympics Golf Every Monday morning from 11am to 12noon coaching sessions take place on the Yellow Nine course for a group of Special Olympic golfers. We usually have 10 to 12 golfers. Volunteers from our club both ladies and men do the coaching. These sessions take place from Mid September to Mid June. Malahide Golf Club has given this accommodation for several years and it brings great fun and enjoyment to the participants - the golfers and the coaches. The golfers come from Prosper Fingal day centres in Portmarnock and Howth as well as the HSE day centre in The Estuary Swords. Some go on to compete in the Special Olympic leagues. The understanding and cooperation of MGC members is greatly appreciated and a big Thank You goes to the Volunteers. Coordinators: Mary Hughes / Donal Delaney Choir News The choir’s first engagement of the 2016 season was the Annual Deceased Members Memorial Service. This service is greatly appreciated by our bereaved families. Anne McDonagh acted as musical director. 2015 was another busy year with the highlight being our annual Concert in October, which again played to a full house, with support acts by Grainne Jordan and Damien Douglas. The summer visit of the Headfort Golf Club to Malahide also produced a full house for a “song and supper “evening. The” après match” sing along produced some fantastic performances from both clubs, with honours being shared. The choir were called on to sing at the funeral of Ann McMahon RIP, and also at the Moran wedding in Dunmore, Co Wicklow a spectacular first such performance. Christmas was carol time and performances in L’Arche House, Baldoyle and Talbot Lodge, were greatly enjoyed. Musical Director Jenny McCabe remains at the helm, with accompanist Carl Banks, supporting at performances. The planned 2016 programme looks exciting and details will follow in Fore. Paddy Walsh Friday Nighters The 59th Season of the Friday Nighters begins on Friday April 1st (no joke!). All adult male members with a handicap of 18 or higher are welcome to participate. This is an excellent opportunity for new members to get to know fellow members. A entry book is in the pro shop for this 9 hole competition which is played each Friday on a designated 9. Watch the notice board for restrictions due to societies but otherwise you may play anytime during daylight. See the Friday Nighters noticeboard for further details. Thomas Magner Snooker Club The snooker team are very grateful for the continued support from all members and wish to remind all that we are always looking for new players.
