FORE Malahide Golf-winter dig[1]

Junior Golf Our total membership in 2015 was 200 Juniors plus 46 cadet members. We think we may have the biggest membership of young golfers in the country. We aim to give every one of our young members an interest in golf which will last them for a lifetime. Once again a good year for the Junior brigade on the golf course. Without making it to the winners’ enclosures, our Boys and Girls teams did well in their respective team competitions. The boys were beaten by the Island in regional play offs for both the Fred Daly and the Leinster U15 trophies. In both we fielded very young teams many of whom will be eligible again next year. Both the boys and the girls put up solid performances in their respective Fingal Leagues. Two members had significant achievements for the year. AJ McCabe represented Leinster in the Boys U16 interprovincial championships, he came through the campaign unbeaten and Leinster won the championship. He was subsequently chosen to represent Ireland at the Italian U16 boys championship played in GC Biella, near Turin in September. He rounded off a great year by winning the Golfer of the Year title in Malahide GC. Jack Nicklaus couldn’t do it, Tiger Woods couldn’t do it, but Emma Collins achieved the Grand Slam of major titles in the Malahide girls’ junior section in 2015. Emma won all of the girls’ major titles, the President’s prize, the Lady Captain’s prize, the Junior Captain’s prize and the Girl’s Matchplay trophy. A great achievement, well done Emma. On the Boys’ side, Jack Murray won the President’s prize, Fintan O’Connor the Captain’s, Ryan Gibson the Junior Captain’s and Ben Gaynor the Boys’ Matchplay title. Ben won the latter after a very close match against Marcus Young. A new perpetual trophy, the Gerry Sheehan Memorial Trophy was kindly presented by Harriet Sheehan in memory of the late, long standing member Gerry, to the boy or girl with the best nett score on Junior Captains’ day. It was won for the first time by Ryan Gibson with 43 points. Well done to the Junior Captains, Harry Doyle and Lauren Kehoe, who performed their duties during the year in an exemplary manner.
