FORE Malahide Golf-winter dig[1]

President’s Message I have been asked to contribute an article re my time as President of MGC. I am writing this while still the President of MGC which ,of course, means that I have not been impeached yet?? At the AGM in 2014 I was elected President of Malahide Golf Club for the year 2015. It is a very great honour to be asked to take on the position of President in Malahide. Despite the fact that you get invited to a number of club functions, it is no free lunch. At the AGM I said that I hoped to carry out a review of operations in the year ahead. I also said that I hoped to see the Blue 9 project completed, and to resolve the boundary issues on the Yellow 9. I further said that I and the Management committee would not please all the members all of the time, but that I would do my best. I have always believed that members of a club should be willing to play a part in the running of their club, at some stage during their membership. Many members do help out, and many others will play in teams this is also playing a part, but there are some who could help out but do not. There have been some successes and some failures during the year, but on balance the successes will have long term good while the failures will be sorted out in time. The Blue 9 project was not completed. The decision to hold back on any capital work until the strategy committee reported did not help. The expected cost of the project was not available by the end of August, which meant that starting any work this year was gone, did not help either. I really thought that I would get the Yellow 9 boundary problems sorted. The two options being discussed were costed, but it was decided not to go ahead with an EGM on this one project. So this has been delayed.
